I was playing on computer like you in the past, 2 years ago, i go on my first gaming laptop for avoid trouble with games, i am happy with this purchase, can always run new games at full graphics for now. 4gb is a little short for mid gaming games, thats not a waste if you up to 8gb.
Your ram memory can be the trouble too, i am almost at 4gb used on my 16gb when the game is running and my pc is optimized ( Not many things at launch ), you are maybe short in ram and the fps go down with the time. And verify if you are using your geforce gpu and not the dedicated by your cpu.
